x

about us

Learning is fun

Our aim is to develop and nurture children so that they will venture from our school as positive and secure individuals and will be able to face the future with confidence.

Michelle van der Berg is the owner of the pre-school and has been running the school successfully since 1998. Michelle is a qualified Junior and Pre-Primary teacher and has a 4 year teaching Diploma. She has taught Grade 1’s for four years and has been teaching nursery school children since 1997. She is actively involved with the school and oversees and guides the 3 classes.

Kidz College is open weekdays (excluding Public Holidays) from 07h00—18h00. Although our school is open the whole year even during the school holidays, you must take note that we close the Friday before the 16th of December and take 1 week leave during the Easter School Holidays and 1 week during the July School Holiday. We always try to combine it with public holidays to make it easier for parents.

x

education

Learning should always be fun

Our vision is to prepare our children for the bright future that is waiting for them.  We follow a well balanced ELDA Curriculum enhanced with a wide range of extra mural activities.  We focus on creating a friendly environment where we provide quality education, focusing on individual attention.

Our programme also accommodates enrichment and remedial activities.

Themes are relevant, child centered and coincide with world events and public holidays.

The children are assessed on a daily basis and reports are presented bi-annually. Your child’s progress and development is discussed with you on an ongoing basis.

Seniors Daily Program

Discipline:
We do not inhibit a child’s spontaneity, but guide and channel it into the right direction.

We keep our children productively busy and stimulated so that they do not resort to disruptive behaviour. Discipline is always firm, fair and consistent.

The parent, teacher and principal work together to deal with any persistent and worrying discipline problems.

educa tional program

Our Grade R class follows a comprehensive School Readiness Programme, laying the foundation for the preparatory reading, maths, motor and concentration skills required for Grade 1.

We follow the letterland program and each child has a handwriting book as well as a perception and numeracy book.

x

fun stuff

Birthdays

As birthdays are important in the eyes of a child, we do our best to make this an exceptionally special day.

We encourage parents to send cake or cup cakes and a few sweets or chips to celebrate this special occasion.

Concerts

Our annual concert is one of the highlights of the year. All children participate in this fun-filled event.

Our Grade R’s also have a formal graduation ceremony on the night of the concert.

Extra Murals

Kidz College offers various extra murals to our children during the morning program.

Children who do not take part in the extra murals will not feel left out, as all the activities take place during outside play time.

We offer computer lessons, ballet, karate, pottery, kidi-sportz and swimming during the summer months.

x

security

Learning should be fun

We view security as a priority. Our school is linked to an armed response company who patrol the surrounds on a regular basis.

Our area is closed off and monitored by numerous CCTV cameras. Our school has installed CCTV cameras as well as an electric fence to ensure the safety and well being of our children and staff.

x

eating healthy

Two balanced meals are offered per day (breakfast and lunch). We also provide a mid-morning snack, mid-afternoon snack and late afternoon snack.

Our menus are nutritionally balanced and well-presented. All our food is freshly prepared in our well equipped kitchen.

The principal and teachers should be notified of any allergies that your child may have.

Tips for Tear free Goodbyes

  • Reintroduce the teacher to your child.Allow them to form an initial relationship. Make it clear that you trust the teacher and are at ease with her watching your child.
  • When it's time to go, make sure to say good-bye to your child.Never sneak out. As tempting as it may be, leaving without saying good-bye to your child risks their trust in you.
  • Once you say good-bye, leave promptly.A long farewell scene might only serve to reinforce a child's sense that preschool is a bad place.
  • Express your ease with leaving. Some parents wave from outside the classroom window or make a funny good-bye face.
  • Don't linger. The longer you stay, the harder it is. Let your child know that you'll be there to pick her up, and say "See you later!" once she's gotten involved in an activity.
  • Learn the other kids' names. When you can call your child's classmates by name ("Look, Matthew, there is a space at the train table with Eli and Katie"), it makes school seem much more familiar and safe.
